I’ve been looking for any way possible to save money because I want to ask my girlfriend to marry me. I never thought saving up for a ring was going to be so hard but man, those things are pricey! I love my girlfriend but I have to admit, she’s got really expensive taste, and it’s going to be tough to afford the kind of ring I know she wants. I love that she’s always there for me and totally supportive, though, so I want it to be something special. I’ve been clipping coupons for food and living off of Ramen noodles when she’s not around.
I’ve also been taking the bus to work when she’s not here to save money on gas and parking! I went to the other day to look into getting my utility bills down because they’re a huge part of my monthly disposeable income. I mean, if I could save just a couple grand this year off all this stuff I’d have enough for a really nice ring by Christmas and then we could be married. I think that now that I’m almost 30 I’m really itching for something stable like a family.
I’ve got the home (I bought my house last year) and though being house poor is kind of a drag I love feeling grounded and accomplished enough to have a mortgage, you know? I’ve really made it, I feel like, since I was kind of a rebellious teen and I’m really proud of the life I’ve created and the amazing things I have surrounding me. I just want to find a way to show Sherry that she’s part of that and make sure she never goes anywhere! I know a good thing when I see it and she’s a good thing – that’s why I want to give her an engagement ring she’ll be proud to show off to her friends.
