In the U.S., tap water is one of the most highly regulated and tested sources of water there is. However, with that being said, tap water can still contain nasty chemicals which you should avoid consuming wherever possible, such as fluoride, chlorine and even pesticides or pharmaceuticals.
This is why we always recommend that you drink either bottled or filtered water. Although not everybody can afford to exclusively drink bottled water, water filtration at home is relatively easy and cost-effective. There are lots of different type of water filtration brands and devices, and if you want to learn more, including further information about why you need a water filter, check out Water Filter Answers.
As many of you may – and should! – be aware, tap water uses high amounts of the chemical compound chlorine to sanitize it and kill bacteria. That’s right; the very same substance which is used to keep swimming pools clean is used in tap water to do exactly the same thing.
Chlorine has been the subject of much controversy and has a great deal of skepticism around it – as far as we are concerned, it is not something which you should be consuming if you can at all avoid it. Although it does not have any immediate negative effects on the human body, nobody knows for sure what the long-term impacts could be.
#2: Filtered Water Tastes Better
The way tap water is treated leaves it with a distinctly funky aftertaste and smell which can – and has – put many people off drinking water. It’s not very pleasant, but it’s something which can easily be avoided… by drinking filtered water!
Filtered water is the purest form of water you can possibly consume. It has not been treated with chemicals or had anything added to it; it is just water plain and simple. As a result of this, filtered water does not have any distinct taste or smell. In fact, it tastes of nothing and this is how water should taste.
#3: Filtered Water is Affordable
This is the main reason why you should be drinking filtered water – it is affordable! If you are a heavy consumer of bottled water, the savings you could be making are staggering. Although spring and mineral water are healthy options, filtered water is just as healthy and comes in at a fraction of the price.
Water filters tend to last for a while and are relatively inexpensive; the only thing you have to do is remember to carry out the filtration. With that being said, there are plenty of clever machines which can be installed into your home to do the job for you. It all depends on how much value you place on your overall health and wellbeing.
Everybody should be choosing to drink filtered water over tap water. It is the purest form of water you can get and does not include any nasty chemicals which can be found coming out of the taps of homes up and down the country.
