The summer’s almost here, and traditionally summer is seen as a time to let your let your hair down and enjoy some fun in the sun with your family and friends. There’s no better way of kicking back then heading to the coast. You may be struggling with what to do and where to go. Here are four ways to make a beach vacation fun.
Pick a popular choice
Where you go on the coast will depend on where you live and how far you want to travel, of course. When choosing a beach vacation spot, bear in mind the group you are travelling with. Think about all of those going with you and work the trip around that. If you have small kids, then you’re going to want to make sure that the stretch of coast you pick has plenty of activities for the young ones.
Do your homework and have a good look around on the internet for some recommendations.Vacationing at Kapalua Bay Beach is a good place to get started with some inspiration. Reading reviews and checking out blogs is also a great way to get some personal accounts of the area you are thinking of visiting. Hearing from those who’ve been there before is often the best way of judging whether somewhere is the right place for you. You might want to also check out weather forecasts for different areas too.
Heading to the coast for a vacation is great fun, but it can also be a dangerous place if you lose focus and don’t think about safety. If you have young children, think about the location itself. You don’t want to be choosing a rocky cove, with strong sea currents, for example, if you have a five and a three-year-old with you.
Also, if you have kids, remember to take safety clothing and equipment with you – including sun-protecting bathing suits and any flotation aids you may need. When you get to the beach, check out the local tourist office for advice and information about the area and find out whether there is a lifeguard on duty. For the benefit of everyone in your group, make sure you slap on sun protection cream to make sure you don’t burn in the summer sun. It’s as important to remember to re-apply it and try to avoid the hottest hours of the day.
Hit the water
Whether you’re going with your partner, your family, or on your own, no beach vacation is complete without heading into the sea. If the weather’s good and the water’s warm, why not go for a swim.
Or, if you want to try something different, check out what water sports activities are on offer. You’re sure to find some sort of beach school if you’re in a popular area. Could you maybe try your hand at windsurfing? Or how about a speedy circuit around the water on a jet-ski?
Avoid the crowds
If you’re looking for a relaxed beach vacation, with peace and quiet, then try and head to the beach outside the peak hours. You could take your place on the sands earlier in the morning, or later in the afternoon. Or, even better, when you’re deciding on where to take your vacation, choose somewhere that’s not a tourist hot-spot.
