It can sometimes be extremely tough to make yourself feel beautiful when you have a family. Not only do you have to think of a whole crowd of people above yourself at all times, but you often simply don’t have the time or inclination to consider your appearance. Luckily there are a few things you can to make sure that you remain stylish as a busy mother – and that you’re comfortable too.
Take Care Of Yourself
First and foremost, the most important thing you can do to make yourself feel comfortable is to take care of yourself. There’s nothing worse than feeling the waistband of your jeans digging into your stomach just after Christmas – so you need to take some time and help yourself feel healthy. Make sure you walk as much as you can instead of driving, and get your partner to take your kids every now and then so you can go to a yoga class. If you aren’t a makeup fan, why not take care of your skin carefully? Keep it hydrated by applying moisturizer and drinking plenty of water, along with wearing sunscreen every day. Keeping your skin in top condition will make you feel less self conscious when you don’t have enough time to apply concealer in the mornings.
Ditch That Huge Bag
Let’s face it: you probably don’t need everything that’s in that huge heavy handbag of yours, and you definitely don’t need the backache that it gives you! Take fifteen minutes to empty it out – throw away all your old receipts and transfer everything that you really need to a smaller bag. If you have young kids or a baby, why not combine your changing bag with a purse? Keep a folder in there with your wallet, cell phone and keys in it so you don’t have to carry multiple bags.
Pick Comfortable Shoes
There’s no pain like spending all day with your feet crammed into high heels, so it’s time to give up the ghost, and your heels, and your flats that have no arch support, and go for sneakers instead. The great thing about sneakers is that they’re really in at the moment, and fashion sneakers like Adidas Originals are both extremely current and comfortable – you don’t have to go for huge bulky running shoes! You could go for Converse or maybe pink sneakers that will be pretty and feminine as well as comfortable. If you want something a little more stompy, why not try Dr Martens? Not only do they look surprisingly good with a short dress, but they’ll last a lifetime and be incredibly comfortable once you’ve broken them in.
Go For Quality Over Quantity
More than anything else, it’s important to make sure that you go for good quality clothing as you get older and have a little more cash to splash. The relief of jeans that fit you instead of those old faded ones that are a little baggy on the butt will be unfathomable – and good quality clothes will also hold up much better to being washed, which means that they’ll last you much longer.
