Totally bug-proofing your home is not always achievable. But, if you have got kids are they are a little squeamish about having pests in the home, there are some simple ways that you can make sure that you are keeping bugs and critters at bay. I have tried loads of different ways of keeping pests out the home and away from the kids. Some have been more successful than others. So, I thought I’d share my ultimate tips to keeping pests out the house.
Tip 1: Keep On Cleaning
Keeping a clean home is the best way to eliminate a pest problem. Clean carpets and floors are a must. This may not be entirely achievable with kids in the house, but it helps to tidy away toys, clothes and ‘messes’. These create hidey-holes for spiders, bugs and mice. What’s more, bedbugs and other horrible critters like these messes as it allows them to nest. So, make sure that you are tidying your home everyday to keep these beasties out.
Tip 2: Keep a Tidy Kitchen
Kitchens are a hive of activity. But, dropped food debris can be a feast for a tiny mouse. Bear in mind, mice come in droves, not just as a singular entity. So, make sure that you’re vacuuming your kitchen daily using a powerful vacuum cleaner. Look for big name brands to use in the kitchen like Dyson or Shark rotator vacuum cleaners. These are the best kinds on the market and can clear away food mess in an instant. Be sure to empty your toaster daily too. While crumbs may not seem like a huge problem, they are mini banquet for inquisitive rodents. Keeping rodents out of the kitchen is a must. After all, they carry a lot of diseases, such as leptospirosis.
Tip 3: Seal Everything!
Sealing doors and windows is the best way to keep wasps and spiders out of your home. Of course, you cannot possibly seal everything. But, finding large cracks is a positive and proactive measure when it comes to keeping pests out in the yard. Sealing windows and doors are a good way to prevent pests from entering your property too. Ensure that you are investing a good quality caulk and sealant. That way, you don’t have to suffer the peril of stinging bugs or terrifying spiders!
Tip 4: Get Rid of Clutter
Bugs need a place to hide. So if you’re anything like me, it would be best to de-clutter. Okay, you want to have some mementos in the home. But, making sure that you don’t have a raft of useless things in the house is a great way of eliminating pest problems. Ladybugs in particular need a place to hide. It’s their survival instinct. So, making sure that you don’t get an infestation of Harlequin ladybugs can be resolved by decluttering.
I’ve used these strategies in my home to keep pests out with a lot of success. Of course, you cannot keep pests out altogether, but at least you can minimise them. What have you used? Are there other tips that you can share
