I’m not a spaghetti and meatballs fan, but I do like meatballs. I can eat them like potato chips. Don’t tell anyone, but I downed a whole plateful while watching Real Housewives before. Don’t worry, I jogged around the block afterwards. Or, maybe it was just up the stairs.
I like my meatballs sweet, and the hubby likes his spicy. As you could probably guess, I win most of the time. I let him have his buffalo wings on Sundays, so it evens out. At least that’s what I tell him when he complains about having sweet-n-sour chicken for the third time that week.
I have to say that he does like my sweet meatballs, or at least he tolerates them. I haven’t told him what my secret ingredient is yet. I fear if he knew, he wouldn’t eat them anymore, and I’m not doing spaghetti without my special meatballs on the side. Which really means, just eating the meatballs.
So, what’s the secret ingredient?
Just good ole’ grape jelly. A friend of mine brought meatballs over to our house last year on Super Bowl Sunday. I was hooked ever since. You could add some chili sauce if you want a little kick to go with the sweet. Just don’t bring them to my house, please.
I’m trying to cut down since I’ve been trying to go back to eating more healthy, but I have to treat myself with some meatballs every now and then.
A couple of meatballs never killed anyone, have they?
- One jar grape jelly
- One jar of BBQ sauce
- One package of frozen meatballs
- One tablespoon of garlic powder
- Turn on crock pot and add meatballs. Mix garlic, BBQ and jelly together and pour over meatballs. Cook for 2-4 hours.
